Welcome to the World of Pubbets! I'm James Marshall, the proud Papa of Pubbets, and I'm thrilled to share our story with you.
Our Journey
Our story began back in 2017 when I was a full-time teacher looking for a creative escape. As a lifelong fan of puppets, I decided to try my hand at making my own. I quickly got hooked, spending all my free time tinkering with different materials and designs. It wasn't long before I realized that many people shared my passion for puppets but lacked access to quality, affordable options.
That’s when the idea for Pubbets was born!
The Birth of Pubbets
In 2018, we launched our very first Pubbet, Jasper, thanks to a successful Indiegogo campaign. Only 50 Jaspers were made in a small tailor shop in Hoi An, Vietnam. Living there during the manufacturing process, I even had the chance to help make them!
Expanding Our Family
By 2019, we introduced two more characters: Sam and Ellie May. These half-body puppets joined Jasper, each crafted with love and care. Although Sam and Ellie May didn’t initially receive the reception we hoped for, we used this as a learning experience to improve our quality.
Growth and Innovation
In 2021, we found the perfect manufacturing partner and released Marvin, our first full-body puppet! Marvin was an instant hit, selling out in just over two months. Later that year, we welcomed Rosey and Josie, two lovely girl characters with detachable legs.
2022 was a busy year for Pubbets. We released a full-body remake of Jasper, complete with a cool alien metallic silver hoodie.
Next, we introduced two furry monster friends, Grunkle and Smooch.
We also launched the Pubbet Minis, a range of three 35cm hand puppets based on Jasper, Sam, and Ellie May.
Finally, we started the Pubbets Lab, a custom puppet workshop for our customers to design their own puppet characters.
Adapting to Challenges
In 2023, with concerns about the looming financial crisis, we decided to try a new approach by releasing smaller and more affordable puppets. First up was Marvin Junior, based on Pubbet 4: Marvin from 2021. We also released a slightly smaller Storytime Monster named Grumplesnoot. Unfortunately, sales were a little slow for these two characters, and we only released the two in 2023, along with staying busy with the Pubbets Lab orders.
A Return to Our Roots
In 2024, we went back to our roots and released a remake of Pubbet 9: Smooch! She has been a big hit, and we plan to continue with this larger size puppet for our main releases in the future.
We've also bought back the Pubbet Minis, with their release in July 2024.
Looking Ahead
What's next for Pubbets? We can't reveal too much yet, but it's something totally out of this world!
